Hibiscus Agua Fresca with chia recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 glasses of water
  • 1/2 cup (about 35 grams) dried hibiscus flowers
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup agua hibiscus fresco
  • Ice

 

Directions

    In a small saucepan over high heat, bring water to a boil. While the water is heating, briefly rinse the hibiscus in a fine mesh filter to remove dirt and debris. When the water boils, remove from heat, add hibiscus, cover and let it brew for ten minutes. After ten minutes, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve in a 1 liter measuring container, squeezing out the solids to extract the liquid from them. Add more water to make 2 cups of liquid again. Add three tablespoons of sugar or more to taste and refrigerate until cool.

    To serve  : Place one teaspoon of chia seeds in the bottom of a small glass. Add 1/4 cup agua fresca hibiscus and stir. Leave it on for 15 minutes at room temperature. Top with ice and serve with a small spoon or straw.
